Sexuality and Intimacy in Multiple Sclerosis

Women’s Multiple Sclerosis-related sexual problems should be seen from the society’s point of view. Recent studies have revealed that up to 43% of US women have sexual problems that cause at least “occasional” concern. The recent epidemiologic studies also revealed that women with MS reported problems in their sexual functions that occur with varying frequencies. As a percentage, over 50% of women with MS have problems with their sexual functioning. Among the most common problems were a decrease in sexual desire, fatigue, loss of orgasm and genital sensation along with vaginal lubrication.

However, comparing the two percentages (43% of women without MS and 50% of women with MS) we can see that these sexual problems are as common as with every other woman. The only difference is the way trough which some of the problems need to be taken care of.
