Sexuality and Intimacy in Multiple Sclerosis

It is recommended to talk with a health professional that is knowledgeable about MS to learn how to cope with the primary sexual dysfunction. The first step should be a thorough evaluation of the problems, which should include a physical exam, review of current medication and a sexual history.

 

Usually, the health professional will want to conduct a joint interview of the person with MS and their partner, as this will provide a better understanding of the problems that both individuals have.  Once this information is gathered, treatment can begin.

 

Amongst the most common primary sexual dysfunctions are decreased vaginal lubrication, sensory changes, problems with orgasm, decreased libido and erectile problems – all which will be detailed below.
