Multiple Sclerosis Symptoms

The most common problem in the range of bowel problems in Multiple Sclerosis is constipation. Usually this is due to self-imposed dehydration to control bladder frequency. Another factor that contributes to constipation is the lack of physical activity.  Nevertheless, both problems can be solved with a right attitude and bladder control without dehydration.

Usually, a bowel program is helpful and most times, necessary. A bowel program begins understanding that the best time for a bowel movement is after a meal. Adding a bulk-forming substance like Meamucil, Fibercon, Citrocel, is also important. When this doesn’t work, a glycerine suppository will do wonders. Usually, a person that suffers from MS will want to have a bowel movement every thee days, or even less. When all else fails, stimulants like Dulcolax suppositories are necessary. Stool softeners can also be used.

However, there are cases when the problem is the exact reverse of constipation, with urgency and incontinence. In this case, the goal has to be to bulk up the stool, allowing more time for the bowel movement sensation. Metamuncil used as a bowel regulator can help a lot in these cases.
