Multiple Sclerosis Questions and Answers
Multiple sclerosis is a condition that’s called an autoimmune disease, a chronic condition and a neurological disease. This can be quite confusing for most people, and finding the doctor to treat their MS can be extremely difficult. Plus, due to the variety of symptoms, the disease is hard to diagnose, and a person can see half a dozen doctors until they find the one who identifies the disease as being MS and sends them to a specialist.
So, to answer the question, the person who’s most capable of treating MS, is a neurologist. This because MS is a demyelinating disease, and the brain if filled with myelin. Plus, the brain controls all of one’s body systems. A neurologist diagnoses MS based on the patient’s history and an MRI. On an MRI lesions of the brain due to the demyelination appear, and this, corroborated with the patient’s symptoms and medical history can lead to a fairly accurate diagnosis.
If you suspect that you have multiple sclerosis or you believe that one of your friends, relatives or family has Multiple Sclerosis, then it’s best to lead them to a neurologist who is familiar with the disease – there are some neurologists that don’t have experience in treating MS.
