Multiple Sclerosis Questions and Answers

As it is well known, for the moment there is no cure for Multiple Sclerosis, but there are some new therapies that relief most of the symptoms and in some cases even cured first stage multiple sclerosis.

The first and most promising treatment is stem cell therapy. This procedure had very good results in patients with first stage MS. It involves taking stem cells from the patient, wiping out the patient’s immune system with chemo, and then inserting the new stem cells to develop a new immune system. These stem cells will build an immune system that won’t attack the myelin.

The second approach is the “liberation therapy” or the CCSVI, which theorizes that MS is not neurological disease, but rather a symptom of thickening of veins, and it involves opening some of the veins. Also, this approach had very good results for some MS patients, but for others it offered only temporary relief.

It’s needless to say, that for the moment, these therapies are not yet thoroughly tested, but they shed a ray of hope for multiple sclerosis patients, and in the near future, it is possible that one of these therapies or another one to be the cure for MS.
