Multiple Sclerosis Questions and Answers

Lyme disease is a bacterial illness caused by a bacterium called a "spirochete."  The bacterium is known as Borrelia burgdorferi in the US while in Europe the bacteria is known as Borrelia Afzelii. There are ticks that are found on deer that harbor the bacterium in their stomach. Lyme disease is spread by these ticks – as they bite the skin the bacterium infects the body.  Lyme disease is not a contagious disease aka if a person has it, that person can’t transmit it to another person. Some of the symptoms include abnormalities in the joints, skin, heart and nervous system.

Multiple Sclerosis is a progressive disease that affects the myelin coating of the nerve cells, which leads to fatigue, muscle weakness, bowel problems, depression, and difficulty in thinking, balance problems, and more. It is an autoimmune disease, and there is no known cause and no known cure for the moment.

It is not uncommon for MS and Lyme to be misdiagnosed, because they share a few similar symptoms. However, if a person has MS this clearly shows on an MRI, while Lyme disease diagnosis relies more on differential diagnosis.

I just posted some excellent lectures about Lyme Disease and multiple Sclerossis with reams of research done on this subject. The lectures were done by micro biologist Tom Grier and are a must read.
If you put Tom Grier into the search box in the right hand column of my blog you will bring them up.
Currently our doctors rely too heaveily on Lyme Disease blood tests which can miss about 50% of csases because of false negatives something our doctors are not aware of.
