In MS, when the activity level drops but the caloric intake remains the same, weight gain can be a problem. There are only a few people that know when they are overweight. Being overweight has several disadvantages, and besides being hazardous for one’s health and making him or her look unattractive, it can make general movements more difficult as well as aided transfers.
Usually, overweight people want to be thinner but they don’t do much to change the situation. As already shown above, decreasing caloric intake only works to some point if the activity level cannot be increased. However, a number of exercises can be done from a chair or bed to keep limber and increase one’s muscle tone. It might take ambition and devotement but it’s not impossible. The key is to try to keep a balance between caloric intake, exercise and fatigue. The start usually means eating smaller but more frequent meals, which means not only lower caloric intake but also greater satisfaction.
